But first: rule of engagement

We have been lucky enough to also be involved in hundreds and hundreds of expeditions that were not our own. It is a great win-win, we believe, as it keeps us sharp and enhances our experience bank, and seems to be really appreciated.Are we teammates or a support force? The latter. Your trip is 100% yours. We come in as part of your home team. You decide how much, how often, and what you need. We may — no, we will :-) — come with suggestions, though. But you are the boss and we are your assistants.

Do we crave any credit? No. We think that if we strive for credit and visibility, it could cloud the purity and quality of the very to-the-point style and products we deliver.We agree on a sum for our services and strive to help you reach your goal.

“Eh – I have a question…”

There is one thing that has made the Norwegian polar standard and community stronger and better than almost any other: none among us has ever refused to answer a question honestly — or been unwilling to do so.

When the Modern Polar Age started forming, it produced titans like Børge Ousland, Erling Kagge, Sjur Mørdre, Rune Gjeldnes, Liv Arnesen, and more. They may not always have been each other’s cup of tea, but they always passed on ideas and experiences.

This meant no wheel was reinvented, and progress was astounding. The standard of quality that was set was next to none, and the number of firsts and successful landmark expeditions completed could fill history books.

You should take a page out of that. Do not wait with a question. The sooner you get an answer, the sooner the next one pops up. THAT is progress.

Planning & preparation

This is such a wonderful part of the trip, and one we really love. This is where the odds of success are laid down. We have a saying that the outcome is decided before you leave home — 80–90% of the expedition should be completed before you lock the door behind you.

The process of structuring, and making sure you know which stones to turn, is so important. This is where we can be great sparring partners.We also know that any such process will evolve, change, and take surprising turns. This can be tricky, as we live by the rule that the trip is yours and you should own it 110%.

So we will go with the flow, be there when needed, prevent roadblocks — and challenge you. We do not believe in advice. We believe in information that you have to digest — and take onboard if it makes sense and brings you forward.

Training

We love lists! The more detailed the better. This may sound boring, but working on lists and details is both great mental preparation, it enhances your understanding of the complexity ahead of you — and prevents you from forgetting anything. In our world, one forgotten item may break the trip or cost a looooot of money.

Permits? Well, we do not love those quite as much. But we live in a world where permitting will only become more and more the norm, and ever stricter. We have been doing permits for decades and know what standards, rules, and requirements you have to fulfil.

This is very often a multifaceted process that includes many aspects of your preparation: physical, medical, monetary — as well as experience. Implementing it all on your way forward makes your whole journey easier and more to the point.

The right equipment

Aj, aj, aj — how to start this one? But first: we will never force or sell you any products. We, as a company, have chosen to be economically free from them all.Again, we will not push, just inform. But if we think something you like is not up to it, we will be very clear. In the end, it is all about safety.

That said, all outdoor people love great equipment. And frankly, pondering, searching, questioning, and testing is a great way to learn, understand, and find solutions YOU believe in and also love. It is, after all, very expensive stuff. If you love it, it will be used more and last longer — which is also sustainability!

Logistics & Cargo

We have all been stressed about the 23 kg allowed on planes. Now quadruple that! Travel to an expedition start can be quite a circus in itself. Weight, safe packing, customs, documentation, what is banned from sending, how to plan it all — it sounds terrible, but it is a very important part of the whole project. Getting everything to the starting point in order saves stress, banzai solutions, and compromises.

Consult us on this, and we will find the best way, whether it is based on budget, time, or safety.

Every year we collect gear for South Pole expeditions in Oslo and send it all by cargo. This is not to save money, but so you know everything has arrived 100% intact in Punta Arenas before you leave home. This saves stress, and with everything sent more than a month before departure, you can hopefully let your shoulders down, have time for family and friends — and arrive in Punta in the best shape possible.

24/7 & weather

This is one of our most used services. We operate as a silent hub at home. You can ask us anything at any time: strategy, repairs, medical issues, nutrition, navigation, etc.

You send us an InReach message with your camp position, and we send you weather updates for the coming day and the next few days. We will also look for whatever might be on the horizon so that you can plan ahead.

Knowing your position, we will keep an eye on navigation and route deviation, and notify you if we have suggestions for alternatives and safer bearings.

We then usually act as the liaison with family and friends at home, so they can ask us, stay up to date, and have us calm anxieties instead of taking up your space.

Some call us every day. Some only send a few messages. That is up to you. But we will be there 24/7 for you.
